Visitors

The shuffling of boots and flip-flops give them away. The sounds cresciendo up to the threshold of my green door. Heads peek-in, hoping to be noticed, as is the passive greeting here. I say `paseay´(pass-e-i which means `visit´in kichwa) to invite them in.

Suddenly my sitting room is wiggling with little ones from the near-by preschool (there are three total for the small community).

Their teacher Priscilla shows them the pictures to the story she´s improvizing. I am discretely trying to make popcorn and kool-aid behind the wall two meters away- and fail. Like little grasshoppers they hopped in and out of the two rooms to see and smell the soon-to-be snack.

Braulio is showing off the worm that he found in the mud.

After the rendezvous to Kindi´s place, we meandered back to the preschool to begin a compost pile for the future garden. The kids especially liked the part where we let them pee in the pile to accumulate some urea for the lack of animal manure...Along with tomatoes and peppers, my hope is to cultivate a bit of marvel and mischief with these wawakuna (kids).
