Celebraciones

43 años

My community just celebrated their 43rd anniversary over a three day stretch.

Massive amounts of chicha, beer and beef were consumed.

The aroma of the scene was a hodge podge of fried potates, fermentation and sour mud. I meandered the festivities, soaking in the rare face of Campana Cocha.

Among the activities were a joke-telling contest, karaoke, free typical meals, soccer (of course), competitions of extracting the seeds of cacao blanco, making traditional animal traps, the community `queen´ (kichwa beauty contest), a christmas program, dances, live music and a parade of students.
I met many of the outgoing, uninhibited personalities of people in my community as the celebration only falls on every other year...the fiesta is fuerte but the social norms quickly return
to normal.

Ring
A fat CONGRATS to my bro Ryan and his new fiancé, Bethany on their recent engagement! My brother outdid himself by catching the fancy of the lovely Bethany- I am certain your journey together will be joyful- All my love.

Mishki Killa
In kichwa mishki means `sweet´and killa means `moon´. Together, mishki killa means `December´ thanks to the treats that are shared. May your holidays be delightful and sweet however you spend them!

Hi. My name is Farren and I am coming to Ecuador with the Peace Corps in Febuary. I was wondering if you had time to maybe help me with my packing... This may seem silly but with limited space I want to be prepared. I also wanted to know if you had any quick advice or things you wish you had known before coming to Ecuador. I am super excited but as time approaches I am getting nervous. My email is farrenk622@gmail.com . I hope to hear from you soon!
